For our second match in as many days we were sent into bat in what was our first home game for the season. With a decent Schramms deck and quick outfield we were confident in our plan of posting a 250 plus score in order to give us a good chance of making it two wins for the weekend. After a slow start we battled to 1 for 13 of 10 overs. However, a big over from opener Gavin Kellar which included two fours and a six kick started our innings and we remained on top for the rest of the game.Eric Ghasperidis looked very solid on his way to a well made 92 coming back from injury.Matt Hunter also helped nudge our total above 250 with a quick fire 60 of just 48 balls. We finished our 50 overs at 6 for 254. Rhino Bird.
We came out knowing a constant flow of wickets throughout their innings would make it hard for them to score at the run rate required to win. That’s exactly what happened and we were able to apply dot ball pressure which brought about the fall of wickets.Michael Shaw opened the bowling with his off-spin and again it paid off as he made the early break through. His spell was followed by Nathan Hrovatin who took 4 for 24 from 9 overs which included a spectacular one handed caught and bowled which was the highlight of our bowling innings. Dale Campbell also took 3 wickets and with Footscray struggling at 9 for 101 the game was all but over. Ashwyn Mohandes took the final wicket to seal a solid 126 run victory and a satisfying team performance.
